Farewell
The visit to Kiskunhalas On March 18, at twelve o’clock a.m., the teachers and the students met at our school. At that hour even our school was sleeping, not to mention the rest of us. After a few photos taken with our sleepy faces, we were ready for the long trip. On the way no one could sleep, because we were too excited thinking about the meeting. After 12 hours of driving we finally arrived in Kiskunhalas, Hungary. We were a little tired after such a long journey, but after we saw what they had prepared for us we forgot about everything. The children were awesome, they sang, danced and recited a poem and the teachers as well sang a beautiful melody that could bring the sun on a cloudy day. After the show was over, we had a short, but delightful visit through their school. All the classrooms were filled with joy and light because of all the beautiful crafts made by the children, they were the perfect classrooms to be in. When we finished the tour, all the teachers from all the countries gathered and we talked for more than an hour. After that we went to the hotel for a good night’s sleep. The next day we worked with the students on a project called “A day together for Europe”. We started the day with a warm up sports activity because it was early in the morning and we wanted the children to be fresh and happy, and I think we achieved that. After that we showed them how to make our mascot, Momo, by craft, while they were watching an interesting and joyful movie about our school. They were delighted to see our school and how the Romanian children are learning. We continued with a presentation on the importance of water and with a beautiful song that reminded us of our childhood. The song was so catchy that all of us started to sing along. It was lovely. In the afternoon we went to Kecskemet, where we visited a folk art museum, which was dedicated to the simple but so carefree life of farmers, with their simple but so useful tools they couldn’t do anything without. This year the museum turns one hundred years, so it has a lot of history, not to mention a lot of stories that only a few people knew about. The day finished with a welcome party at the hotel, where we talked, laughed and ate. We had a wonderful time and, even if for most of us it was the first time we had met, we felt like a big happy family, with no worries. On Wednesday the school prepared for us another beautiful show, called “Here we are”, with their talented children. They started the program with some basic judo moves, performed by children of different ages. It continued with a choir song accompanied by some instruments and a folk dance and finished with the presentation of all the mascots which participated in this project, and the song called “Lemon tree” sung by all the children and some teachers who were brave enough. After the program ended, we went to different classes and watched how the teachers from Hungary managed to make their lessons interesting. The guest teachers and students participated as well, and it was a good learning experience for both sides, experience not many people get the opportunity to have. I must say that the only thing I didn’t like in Hungary was the weather. Every day it rained and the sun didn’t appear even once to say hello, or to smile at us. In the afternoon we went downtown to play some bowling and to relax a little bit. In the evening we went to a church where a teacher played the piano and a beautiful lady with a wonderful voice, like of an angel’s, sang for us. We felt like we were in heaven, it was very emotional. After that the teacher who had played the piano invited us to his wine cellar, to sing, laugh, taste his wine, to become better friends, and have a good time. On the final day, it rained like on the other days, nothing new in the sky, but even if the weather was terrible, we had a wonderful time, nothing could bring us down. Some of us visited a primary school, others visited a secondary school. The secondary school is one of the top schools in the country, with top teachers, equipment and with a history of one hundred years. For every teacher that school is the best place to work with the students, what we saw there was overwhelming. I can say that no school in Bucharest has such equipment or such laboratories. We continued with a trip to the Lace Museum, where we found out that a lace can have 60 models and, depending on its size an item can take between 6months and 3 years to make, it’s very hard work. Like all good things, this experience had to come to an end as well, unfortunately. The host school prepared a farewell party, with the whole package: a dancing show with the teachers, some funny moments and some beautiful songs, performed both by the students and the teachers. This visit to Kiskunhalas, Hungary was a phenomenal experience, where we learned a lot of interesting new things and made a lot of friends that will never be forgotten.By Adrian Băncilă (PE Teacher from Romania) Thank you, our Friends, your warm and kind words. See you soon in Slovakia! (Julia Kárász coordinator of the meeting)
